May 29-31 - Penasquitos Summer Classic

      The team got their formal introduction to tournament play. The team played 4 competitive games and walked away with a great introduction to All-Star softball. With each game our hitting and fielding improved...ready to take on the next challenge.

 

June 1-3 - Laguna Niguel Sea Country Classic

      The girls improved tremendously this week and got their first win!! ... a 5-3 victory over Clairemont. The team's batting average went from .169 in our first tournament to .273 in Laguna. Our girls struck out 21 less times this tournament as well. The girls played 2 full six inning games which is a testament to their improved defense and solid pitching. Our pitchers averaged seven strikeouts per game to lead the charge...But the girls' favorite part of this tournament was the "REALLY" fun pool at the hotel!!

 

June 7-10 - Mira Mesa Runway Classic

     Our team continued to show great progress in Mira Mesa. The girls got another win, a 5-3 thriller over Peninsula. We got solid pitching performances and the bats have come alive. Here's an amazing stat...in our 1st tournament in PQ we played 5 games and put the ball in play 17 times. In Mira Mesa, we played 4 games and put the ball in play 47 times!! And some of the hits were laser shots. Stay tuned!

 

June 14-17  THE POWAY HEAT CLASSIC

     The girls began the Poway tourney with a nice 3-2 win over Mira Mesa. The girls lost a tough one to RB by the same 3-2 score. Then Saturday brought two tough losses to North Shore and Murrieta. The girls are continuing to improve at their basic skills and fundamentals. We're looking forward to Districts!

 

June 22-24 - So-Cal District Tournament in Vista. 

      Let's hear it for our 8Us from Poway!! The girls finished 3rd out of 8 teams in the District tournament. After beating Escondido 7-5 and North Shore 14-6, the team lost 4-3 in the semifinal game vs. La Costa.  Had we made it to the final game, we would have qualified for the State tournament in Lancaster. Soooo close!! Hats off to our 8U All-Stars. We're so proud of you!

 

June 28- July 1 - Escondido Freedom Tourney

   Our 8Us from Poway did it again in Escondido. For the first time this season the girls won 2 games in pool play, earned first place in their 4 team pool and made it to the semifinals on the final day. We lost to a very good Santee team 3-0 to close out our season. During this tournament the girls got their first shutout win, 3-0 over RB...And they pounded out 10 hits in a 9-4 victory over Lakeside. Just awesome!

 

Season Wrapup:

   What a marvelous job our 8Us did this summer. After some early growing pains, the girls took 3rd place in Districts, losing in the semifinals by 1 run...and then making it to the quarterfinals in their last tournament in Escondido. The progress was phenomenal. Congratulations to our girls who played their hearts out!

 

   ALL OF US COACHES AND PARENTS ARE SO PROUD OF THESE GIRLS!  THEY GAVE US A SUMMER OF MEMORIES THAT WE'LL NEVER FORGET. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK...
