Tournament Recap - Escondido 12U-14U NCWA Post Season

In the 12U Division RB Team 1 beat the Murrieta Lady Outlaws 6-2 in the championship game. Murrieta reached the finals by gaining revenge for a blow out loss in pool play to a strong hitting Oceanside Outlaws team by beating them 6-2 in the semi finals. Rancho Bernardo held off Mira Mesa in the other semi final 6-3, handing Mira Mesa its only loss of the tournament.

In the championship, RB got out to a 4-0 lead early before Murrieta staged a rally. Murrieta trailed 4-2 in the 5th with a runner on 3rd and only 1 out. When the ball got by the catcher (Rasa Koletar) the runner tried to score from 3rd base. The catcher tracked down the ball and dove back towards home plate, tagging the Murrieta runner before she could reach home plate to preserve the 2 run lead. RB added two late runs to seal the win. The winning pitcher was Kellie Nagle, and Tori McIntyre went 3-4 to lead RB. Murrieta was led by their catcher who hit a solo home run and fine defensive play by their shortstop and 2nd basemen.

In the 14U Division the tournament was very competitive. All 6 teams finished pool play with 1 win and 1 loss, so the tie breaker of runs allowed was used to seed the teams. Although the EGSL Shockwave was seeded last in their pool, they had played shorthanded on Saturday and were back at full strength on Sunday, breezing to the final game with wins over the other two EGSL teams in bracket play. Meanwhile San Marcos Insanity and Poway Poison Ivy were battling in the other semi final. It looked like San Marcos was going to take the game, leading 3-1 with two outs in the 7th inning and no one on base, but Poway staged a late two out rally to tie the game and force extra innings. San Marcos pushed across the winning run in the 9th inning and advanced to the championship game.

In the championship game, it was all EGSL Shockwave for the first few innings. With a 12-2 lead in the bottom of the 5th, it looked like the mercy rule would end the game. But San Marcos would not quit. They scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 5th and 2 more in the 6th to tie the game at 12-12. In the 7th EGSL Shockwave got some key hits and scored 3 runs and held off San Marcos in the bottom of the 7th to claim the championship.

Congratulations to all participating teams - Players and Coaches. It was an exciting Tournament!

So Cal ASA North San Diego District Leagues.

Other leagues are invited and encouraged to play North County
Winterball with the understanding that all games will be played within the District.

Register to Play

The Registration Deadline is August 12^th, 2007.

A Registration Meeting, mandatory for Designated League Contacts, will be held
on August 12^th, 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the Poway Girls Softball Fields Snack Shack, Aubrey Park.

The Registration Meeting will include opportunity to discuss team pool placement and any other issues.

Aubrey Park Location: 13544 Aubrey Street, Poway, CA

All leagues are encouraged to submit their Registration Package as soon as possible,
before August 12^th, via email to webadmin@pgsladmin.org to assist in game field schedule planning. Registration Meeting attendance for League Contacts is still required.
